Short Summary[]

Kurumi goes to her high school reunion but it all turns out to be a hoax put on by her former classmate, Masuda, to scam her. Kusuo, of course, does not let this happen.

Long Summary[]

On a Saturday morning, Kusuo explains that his mother, Kurumi, is scatterbrained. Kurumi tells him to get ready for school but Kusuo reminds her that he does not have school today. She got the day mixed up and is upset since she woke up early to do curry for both him and Kuniharu. She then realizes she did not cook the rice and grabbed Kuniharu’s towel and clothes to wash them while he was showering. Kurumi then asks Kuniharu to taste the curry, only to accidentally spill it on Kuniharu. Kusuo is not the least bit surprised as this is a regular occurrence, he knows she does not doubt others and gets into trouble.

He recounts a story from another day. She received an email stating she can win 60 million yen. Kuniharu is surprised only to find out she had to pay a transfer fee of 180,000 yen to win it. Kusuo thought no one would be foolish to fall for it but realized someone close to him would. He goes on to state it is a habit for her to get tricked from many individuals but he makes sure to lock them up. Kusuo then states that he believes that he may have been born with these abilities to protect her, and if it is the case, he will happily do his best. A while later, Kurumi is well dressed up and stating she is leaving. Kusuo questions Kuniharu on where she is going, he tells him that she is going to a class reunion. Kusuo finally remembers, tells his dad to go put some clothes on and hopes nothing bad happens to her.

She arrives at the building the reunion will be held and is feeling nervous since it has been over 20 years since she graduated. Someone calls her and she recognizes it as the tennis club captain, the most popular guy in the school and who has a shining aura, Masuda. He appears in front of her, his appearance changed since most of his hair is gone, and he takes her inside the building. She is surprised there are not many people. Masuda explains since the reunion is being held in the city not many will be able to attend compared to the countryside, where the school is. She accepts the answer.

A guy goes up to her asking her if she recognizes him, she says she does but it appears she does not. He does not blame her and tells her if she remembers the scar he has in his arm. She realizes he is the class delinquent who has reformed and changed a lot. A woman goes up to the guy and states he has definitely changed. Kurumi tries to remember who she is but fails. She tells Kurumi if she remembers the mole she has. Kurumi realizes and is surprised that she used to be a guy. Seeing how several people changed, they decided to reintroduce everyone for her and she is surprised. Kurumi realizes she is the only one who has not fully changed. Masuda reassures her that she has changed; she got married and had two kids, with the oldest studying at Cambridge. Kurumi questions him as to how he knows about that as she has not told any friends about it. He nervously tells her that her mother told him about it and they should start the party. She agrees.

In Masuda’s thoughts, he is relieved she did not question it. He admits the whole reunion is a lie; everyone, excluding himself, are just actors and not former classmates. It was all a plot to get close to Kurumi. He found out Kusuke has invented many things with patents and licenses that amass a fortune so he will use her trusting and stupidity nature against her. He will get close, mention he has money problems, and with that she will obviously help and he will take away all the money he can from her. Kusuo, outside, tells him what if he took away his remaining hair or his whole head from his neck. Masuda turns and just believes what he heard was his imagination.

Kusuo, flying above, states he had a bad feeling, came to hear and watch the whole exchange and turns out he was right. He goes on to say normally someone would be suspicious of something by now and he does not know how to approach this. It would be easy for him to go in there and tell her but the guy is a former classmate and he does not want her upset over him using her. He does not want his mother finding out about the situation so he will go after him when he goes somewhere alone. Right on cue, Masuda goes to the restroom and Kusuo goes after him.

While Masuda does his business, Kusuo comes out from a stall behind him, and makes him not able to move. Right behind him, Kusuo tells him to stay away from Kurumi. Nervous on the exchange, he questions who he is. Kusuo tells him to be quiet or he will get hurt, he immediately accepts. The door opens, Kusuo quickly leaves, Kurumi enters and realizes she entered the wrong restroom.

Kurumi sees Masuda on the ground and questions him what happened. Kusuo, nearby, did not think she would go into the male restroom and is nervous since Masuda was able to see him. He quickly tells Kurumi he was attacked by Kusuo for no reason, brought out fake blood and decides to take advantage of the situation. Kusuo explains he did not attack him, yet, however since his mother is trusting he guesses he has to go tell her everything. Kurumi questions Masuda, he assures her Kusuo did it. Kurumi then left hooks at the jaw, telling him Kusuo would not do that. She keeps punching him, telling him he is lying since Kusuo will never do that for absolutely no reason. Masuda cries, telling her to stop, meanwhile Kusuo is touched that Kurumi trusts him more. Kusuo goes up to her and grabs her shoulder to stop her. She turns around, her hand and a bit of her cheek covered in blood, and sees him. Kusuo realizes he probably was not born to protect her, but to protect people from her.

Trivia[]

  • Masuda’s first name, Shuuji, was never mentioned in this chapter. His name was only released through the character guidebook.
