On the first day of a new year, Kusuo ends up having to spend it with the two worst people possible for him: Kokomi and his older brother, Kusuke.

Long Summary[]

In the new year, Kokomi is outside near the Saiki residence, practicing the possible conversation she can have with Kusuo. She plans to wish him a new year and explain to him that she came to the home to wish Kurumi a happy new year since she has helped her. She then will easily change the conversation to invite him to come to the shrine with her. Thinking her plan is perfect and reassures herself that her reasons are good enough, she goes to ring the doorbell. She nervously and patiently waits but there is no answer. She questions it, thinking no one is home and tries the doorbell once more. She is surprised that they are out of the house right in the morning of the new year. Kusuo snickers, admitting that they are home. His parents are occupied with the tv and he noticed she was coming with his telepathy so he made it possible for the doorbell not to work. Smirking, he believes this is his win. He walks away from the front door and apologizes, he wanted to spend his new year peacefully.

Kusuo hears Kokomi’s thoughts on being disappointed that her perfect plan will be ruined. She sighs, remembering her effort on ditching her brother as well. A person then catches her attention. He asks her if she needs something from the home. She questions who they are and if he is trying to pick her up. She then finds out who he is. Kusuo realizes who she ran into, dashes to the front door and opens it. The guy tells her that he was right that Kusuo would come soon. It is Kusuke and he lectures Kusuo that he should not pretend that he is not home when there is a girl. Kokomi, surprised, asks him if he has an older brother. Kusuke tells her that they should go inside and she agrees. Kusuo is in shock and annoyed since he will have to start the year, in his opinion, with the worst combination of people.

Inside the home, Kuniharu and Kurumi are surprised that Kusuke came home. Kusuke is glad to see his mother again. Kokomi wishes Kurumi a happy new year. Kurumi is also glad to see her and wishes her the same. Kurumi then questions how Kusuke and Kokomi entered together since they have not met before. Kusuke explains she was outside ringing the doorbell and he brought her inside with him. Kuniharu is surprised and questions if the doorbell rang. Kurumi is surprised, explains to Kokomi that she did not hear it either and apologizes. Kusuke asks his father if they were so absorbed watching the tv. Kuniharu corrects him that he was not but is interrupted by Kusuke saying he brought them sweet potato fries. Kuniharu yells at him to not interrupt him while speaking. While the family speaks, Kokomi thinks about how great it is to learn that Kusuo has an older brother. She is surprised that the two are completely different, complementing Kusuke on his decent looks and how social he is. She also mentions having a strange feeling of not being able to get along with him.

Kokomi then remembers another Saiki sibling that she wants to greet and asks the family about Kuriko. They are confused but Kusuo gets nervous. Kusuo remembers running into Kokomi in his female form, pretended he was his own sister, but he failed to inform them of this. Kuniharu believes he understood what she said, Kusuo is relieved he got it. Kuniharu then hands her a dish that is made with chestnuts. She corrects him, saying she was talking about Kusuo’s younger sister. Kuniharu is confused, about to admit that Kusuo does not have a sister. Kusuo once again panics but Kusuke gets a handful of the chestnut dish and puts it in Kuniharu’s mouth. Smiling, Kusuke tells Kokomi that their sister is studying abroad and had no idea she knew of her. She is surprised by this and believes it. Kusuo is relieved that they figured out what was going on. Kokomi questions where she is studying, Kusuke was about to respond but Kuniharu interrupts him saying she is studying in Paraguay. She is again surprised by this and Kusuo tells him to shut up.

To get the conversation away from Kuriko, Kusuke tells Kusuo that he got him New Year’s money. Kusuo is happy by this news. Kusuke then hands Kokomi another envelope, saying she can have some too. She politely tries to tell him that she can not accept it. Kusuke tells her she can have it since he has about 8 billion yen ($80 million USD.) She is confused and just takes it. Kusuo says that she believes he is joking. Kusuke then says his dad too. Kuniharu is embarrassed, believing Kusuke would help out his parents. Kusuke corrects him, he wants the money Kuniharu should give him. Kuniharu yells at him if he actually needed the money when he just said he had 8 billion yen. Kusuke tells him that it does not matter, he is still 19 years old. Kuniharu begrudgingly hands him an envelope and Kusuke tells him he will gladly save the money. Kuniharu again yells, asking him if he will not spend it on something memorable. Kusuke tells him he will not waste it and save it into his 8 billion yen account right away. Kuniharu tells him to not do it.

While they speak, Kokomi hears them and wonders if this is a family joke. Kusuo taps her arm and faces him. She is confused, sees he is pointing at a direction and realizes that he is pointing at the front door. She is in shock and blushes, believing he invited her out to go to the shrine. She then smiles brightly, happy that he invited her and wonders if she can accept this as an ‘offu.’ Kusuo tells her she can not. Kusuo explains this is the only way to get her and Kusuke away from each other, he can not let them get along or else it would get more annoying. She accepts his offer out loud and tells him they should go. He goes to get his coat and a scarf. Kusuo, with Kokomi behind him, checks on them and hears that they are busy chatting. He believes it is a good time to leave and they head to the front door. Right as they are about to leave, they hear Kusuke said he will go with Kusuo and Kokomi to the shrine. His parents are fine with this but are surprised that Kusuo is gone.

At the shrine, there is a crowd. Kusuke mentions how many people there are, while Kusuo and Kokomi are behind him seemingly upset. Kusuo blames his brother for him being stuck in this situation and believes there is only one way to get out of the situation. At the same time, Kokomi is annoyed that Kusuke came with them and believes she will try to get an opportunity. In sync, Kusuo and Kokomi think that they need to be alone with each other.

Suddenly, Kusuke questions them if they are dating. Normally, Kokomi would casually deny it, but she nervously denied it. Kusuke tells her that the two got along well so he got the wrong idea. Kusuo is certain he knew it but asked anyway. Kokomi is angry he asked that type of question and that hse is no good with guys like him. Kusuke tells her that he guessed that they were not since the two of them do not suit each other. He believes they are different, one being greater than the other. He then apologizes if things got awkward. Kokomi shrugs it off and tells him that Kusuo has good points. Kusuke questions her, saying Kusuo obviously does have good points and that is why they are not suited for each other. He then pretends that he realized that she believed she was the greatest out of the two. He corrects her and says he does not blame her due to her looks but he does not care about that. She is in shock that he would say that. He continues to say that she is more suited to find some good looking guy and have good looking children but Kusuo is special and on another level than her.

Kusuo gets his brother's attention, looking visibly angry, and tells him that he said too much. Kokomi realizes why she does not like Kusuke, he has not told her ‘offu’ yet. At that moment, Kusuke sees how angry Kusuo is and says ‘offu’ in fear. She hears him, does not understand why he said it but knows it was not for her. She explains while there have been others who have not said it, she does not accept him, who shows very little interest in her, not saying it. Kusuke nervously tells Kusuo he does not need to give him a scary face. He tells him that she was a little too confident and needed to put her into her place. He finishes by saying that he sees other people ask monkeys so he can not figure if someone is beautiful or not. Kusuo believes it is a disgusting way to look at others. Kusuo then warns Kusuke to not get Kokomi angry since she is an opponent that even he has trouble with. Kusuke is confused on this.

Kokomi feels humiliated and decides she will never forgive him. She then cries and tells Kusuke that she did not mean it like that. Kusuke apologizes and says that she is good at acting. The crowd at the shrine sees her crying, are angered and head in their direction. Kusuke is confused and asks Kusuo if there are people crowding around them. Kusuo corrects Kusuke, saying they are not circling them, they are circling him. Kokomi smirks, saying this her ultimate technique, “Angel’s Tears.” The people circling Kusuke question why he made Kokomi cry and they will kill him. Kusuke nervously smiles and questions Kusuo if they are her boyfriends. He yells at Kusuo and realizes that his brother will not help him. Kusuo realizes that even Kusuke is not able to go against Kokomi. Smiling, Kokomi then tells Kusuo that they got separated with his brother and they should just continue walking around alone together. Kusuo then starts thinking on how to get away from Kokomi.

In an omake page, the angry crowd is chasing after Kusuke. Kusuke, on a helicopter, thinks about making Kokomi one of his research subjects as well.
