The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.: Reawakened[3][4] (斉木楠雄のΨ難 Ψ始動編 Saiki Kusuo no Ψ-nan ΨShidō-hen) is the Netflix original anime series of Saiki Kusuo no Psi-nan.

History

On March 23, 2019, Netflix announced on their booth at AnimeJapan 2019 that it will produce an original anime series. Hiroaki Sakurai is returning to direct the anime at EGG FIRM and J.C. Staff.[5]

In Weekly Shōnen Jump Issue 46, 2019, it was announced that the new series will come out in the Winter 2019 anime season. It will feature previous chapters that were not adapted and have characters, Suzumiya Hii and Iguchi Takumi animated. Hii will be voiced by Nao Tōyama and Takumi will be voiced by Kōsuke Toriumi.[6] Hiroshi Kamiya, Kusuo's Japanese voice actor, commented on how the director has been overwhelming, especially on the 5th episode of the series and Nao Tōyama mentions liking the performances from Aiura Mikoto's voice actress and Hairo Kineshi's voice actor.[7]

On October 23, 2019, it was announced that the series will come out on December 30, 2019, with 6 episodes. The official visual was released along with a promotional video/trailer.[8] Afterwards, on November 27, 2019, new images, cut out scenes from the series, were released.[9] Then on December 16, 2019, Netflix updated the page for the series, sharing the trailer dubbed in several languages, including English, Spanish, French and many more. Through the English dubbed trailer, it can be assumed that the original cast from Funimation's Season 1 English dubbing does not reprise their roles. On the same day, Weekly Shōnen Jump's new issue released, sharing new images and a stage for the series to be set on 21st of that month. On December 22, 2019 (0:02 JST[10]) to promote the release, custom Twitter emojis appeared on hashtags when using specific characters names (Kusuo, Riki, Shun, Kokomi, Kineshi and Reita.)[11] Then, on December 26th, to celebrate Asou Shuuichi's birthday, two new more cut out scenes were released, featuring Kusuo, without his abilities, and Kokomi.[12] On the hours leading to the release, Kusuo and several other characters took control of Netflix Japan's Anime related Twitter account. Several videos were posted in that process about every hour.[13]

The episodes were released on Netflix on December 30, 2019 (8:00 AM UTC/12:00 AM PST.)[14] A couple of days afterwards, to celebrate the release and the new year, new official art was released. It features Kusuo, Chiyo, Kokomi, Shun and Aren wearing rat ears, to symbolize 2020's Chinese zodiac animal, the rat. Riki, also in the image, is shown symbolizing 2019's animal, the pig.[15]
